Recall Action for SAMSUNG Electro-Mechanics Power Supplies in Europe

SAMSUNG Electro-Mechanics (SEMCO) recalls some SEMCO power supplies, which were delivered after October 24th, 1999 and were installed in some models of various personal computer brands. The brands and models that could contain the affected power supply are:

  • Compaq Presario and Compaq Prosignia, delivered in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia
  • HighScreen, delivered in Germany
  • Packard Bell Legend delivered in Germany and Austria
  • Schneider, delivered in Europe
  • Targa, delivered in Europe
Some of those PC's carry a power supply that could cause problems due to a defective transformer. The power supplies to be recalled will be those having a serial number C991015418 and higher. Although this defect will not cause any harm to the end-user (already confirmed by two independent German test laboratories) SEMCO would like to take these power supplies out of the market. In the worst case, the power supply itself will be shut down. In order to avoid any inconveniences for the end-user, SEMCO feels obliged to provide a service check.

In order to inform the end user in more detail, information on the Internet will be available starting January 25, 2000 (www.viatec-service.com/ps). At that same date a toll-free hotline number for end users in Germany will be open. The number is 0800-2283247. A toll-free European hot line number will be communicated as soon as the number is available via above mentioned Internet address and via advertisings in which we will also ask the end user to have the serial number of the system unit at hand before calling.
